Community Connections / Patch
North Quabbin Patch, a program of Valuing Our Children, is located at our Lumber Street office. Patch is not an acronym but a place that means neighborhood.
The program opened its doors in 1999, the product of collaboration between Valuing Our Children, the North Quabbin Community Coalition, the Department of Children and Families, the Department of Youth Services, other area service providers, and local residents. The focus of the program has been to help develop and understand family centered and strength based practice as well as support and enhance continued collaborations among families and providers.
In addition, the program has worked to support the availability of services that have been difficult for families to access. Some of these hard to access programs that we offer at our Patch are:
-
Fuel Assistance access for Worcester County residents
-
MassHealth services through the Healthcare Navigation Program
-
Court Service Center representatives from both Worcester and Franklin Counties
-
Community Action's Resource and Referral Program

Community Connections also supports VOC's Family Advocate position. The Family Advocate works with DCF involved families when a family is struggling with their services. The advocate can work as a navigator or bridge between DCF and the family, and can support the family during meetings, visits, and court proceedings.
